The project is a proposal for the construction of a building with facilities in a tourist resort (Sivota, Greece). The plot is located in a quiet residential area, barely 30 meters from the port. Most of the houses in the area have 2 floors and are integrated into the area in a quiet balance.
The functions of the building are similar to those of a normal vacation or main house: private areas with bedrooms and social areas with living room and service zones such as kitchen and bathroom. In addition, the proposal can be flexibly adapted to different needs. At the entrance, which is on the street side, there is a garden, a filter for the reception in an intimate green environment. Each apartment has a part of the space dedicated to the annex. On the other side, in the inner part of the property, there is an open common room that offers space for family and friends. It is a relaxation area with a swimming pool, a barbecue, a lounge area, and an outdoor living area. This area is flooded with natural light during the day, while the artificial light at night creates a beautiful nocturnal scenario. The spatial organism thus enters into a dialog with its surroundings and the natural light. It is important to step out of the confines of the indoors and spend some time outside, in a place with such beautiful weather conditions. It is especially beautiful in the spring, summer, and autumn months.
The result is a sophisticated design based on clean and pleasing lines. Pure and simple in its forms, the building is adapted to offer flexibility in the choice of materials in certain finishes or elements, i.e. natural stone, wood, stucco, clear glass, etc. This provides the opportunity to create a variety of options depending on preference while maintaining a balanced coherence. Windows and doors are designed to circulate a cool breeze in the rooms and control the light during the day depending on the climatic conditions.
The outdoor area is designed as an open space where various activities can take place. The barbecue and the lounge zone: these two elements form a core that, on the one hand, is protected from the environment and the strong daylight of summer and, on the other hand, is in direct contact with the other outdoor functions. Other accommodations include the outdoor living area, where you can gather around a table with a fireplace, and a relaxation zone, where sun loungers are placed along the swimming pool to relax in the sun or shade. In addition to entertainment, the swimming pool, combined with a green strip that covers the entire outdoor area and the presence of trees in certain areas, helps to create a pleasant microclimate.
In the outdoor area, there are two elements that strongly appeal to the eye: the structure of the barbecue lounge area and the swimming pool. Sometimes a corner can not only play a complementary role but in some cases become the central focal point. Some things can make certain spaces more visually interesting. Also, some elements can be permanent, while others can be easily changed according to personal preferences, such as the colors of pillows, towels, curtains, upholstered furniture, etc. In general, secondary elements can add beautiful and interesting accents on a larger or smaller scale.
It's like having an outdoor room in your home. It's a challenge to create functional outdoor spaces that have an open feeling. The house and the garden are considered as one big area. All the elements that can transform an outdoor area into a social center, such as a barbecue, a refrigerator, a sitting area, a fire table, a swimming pool, sun loungers, and so on. The grass around the edges and a small collection of plants break up the look and add a natural feel and color.
