Apartment Renovation

This project is the conversion of an office (on the ground floor of a residential building) to residential use. The main challenge was to create a remarkable identity and add value to what could be considered a constraint. The character of the project is to create a calm space that reflects cleanliness, hygiene, and airiness.

Understanding the structure and constraints was the most important consideration. The floor plan of the house was divided into various small rooms, which made it unsuitable for modern living. The interior renovation focused on removing most of these dividing walls to create interconnected spaces. Two walls were removed, one to open up the space and flood the interior with light as much as possible, while the other was replaced with an integrated unit that houses some amenities on both sides (living area and sleeping area). By integrating the elements into the exterior, we get more empty space, purity, and spatial definition, while reducing their visual presence. At the same time, we provide a lot of storage space. Functional, organized, easy to use, and visually appealing.

The main scheme of the project now gives an open, spacious feel. The apartment has two bedrooms, an open plan living area, and a bathroom. The living area is an open plan and the two bedrooms and bathroom are accessed via a vestibule that connects to the entrance, which leads directly into the living area. The latter provides access to a private garden suitable for growing plants such as the existing lemon and orange trees. Furthermore, the garden can be used for relaxing and sunbathing, drying clothes, accommodating pets, etc.

The color palette is neutral, with lots of white, so that favorite objects, plants, and colors can be shown off in some settings. So, walls and ceilings are painted white and are complemented by white kitchen cabinets to accentuate the volume and unify the space. The storage space of the kitchen (including the main appliances) is projected on the appliances of TV where the utensils are hidden. This homogeneity creates an esthetically pleasing effect. The result is a series of monochrome and pure elements that create a pattern of light and shadow. A balance of natural and artificial light adds some accents to emphasize the dynamics of the space. Select woods contrast with the white elements and light wood floors. Behind the kitchen, a dining area is partially integrated into the core of the frame (with storage underneath), creating a warm and cozy space with an extendable table. This space is not only suitable for meals but also forms an active social environment, a meeting place for passions, intimacy, and friendships (playing cards with friends, having a drink, etc.) At the same time, personal activities such as studying and working on the laptop can take place here. It forms a unique space with the living room and kitchen; a space open to daily life, socializing, meditation and living.
